Graduate Certificate in Iberian Studies

A core component of the Spanish and Mediterranean Studies Program is the Graduate Certificate in Iberian Studies. The program considers the importance of Iberian cultures and their Mediterranean roots in the context of debates on European histories and societies. Likewise, it strengthens the Latin American and Caribbean scholarly expertise at FIU by exploring the past, present and future role of Iberian countries in the Americas. The Iberian Peninsula and the broader Mediterranean constitute more than just a geopolitical space but rather represent a regional locus connecting a variety of cultures and globalizing forces. These two regions also connect to the Caribbean and the larger Florida peninsula in various ways that could in turn translate into an innovative and unique program for the Green School's interdisciplinary focus. The certificate also fits very well within the Green School’s strategic mission to understand the dynamics of globalization.
