Certificate Requirements

  • Students must be enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program at FIU.
  • Students must be proficient in reading and comprehension of Spanish and/or Portuguese to be able to undertake the research.
  • Certificate courses must be completed with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and a grade of B or higher in all courses.
  • The Graduate Certificate in Iberian Studies is 18 credits. You are required to take 4 courses.
  • 9 of these credits must be from a different department: History, Religious Studies, Spanish and Art History. No more than one per department. 3 of these credits must be internship course credits. 6 credits might be chosen from the electives available every semester.
  • Other courses may be substituted if the professor provides a note certifying that the course has a minimum of a 33 percent “Spain/Mediterranean/Iberian – related” content.
